Fleet Overview




Weekly Brief

The Black Sea Fleet initiated a new rounds of rotations within the Mediterranean Task Force as a Buyan-M class corvette and an Aleksandrit class minehunter were being sent towards the Mediterranean.
Regular training exercises continue to take place on several warships and more specialized exercises such as amphibious landings and anti-sabotage exercises were reported as well.

Daily Events

January 19
Several crews, stationed in Crimea or Novorossiysk, have completed the first phase of their training course and are qualified to head out to sea. The crews are able to prepare a vessel to head out to sea, provide air defense when in harbor, conduct damage control and set up anti-sabotage measurements.
In the upcoming second phase, the crews will train for naval combat with rocket and artillery fire being done at sea [1].

January 20
An amphibious landing exercise took place at the Opuk training ground which saw the deployment of over 500 servicemen. Naval infantry was loaded on board of the Tapir class landing vessel RFS Saratov and landed on the coast, defended by other units of the naval infantry [2].

January 21
The Russian ministry of Defense announced that Buyan-M class corvette RFS Orekhovo-Zuyevo is restarting her passage through the Bosporus and Dardanelles and is heading towards the Mediterranean. The vessel will join the Russian task force operating from Tartus [3]. She will replace the Buyan-M class corvette Vyshny Volochyok [4].

The passage of the vessel through the Bosporus was later visually confirmed [5] around 16:46 local time [6].

January 22
Aleksandrit class minehunter RFS Vladimir Emelyanov departed the Black Sea and headed towards the Mediterranean [7].

January 23
Several Grachonok patrol vessels took part in an exercise at the Novorossiysk naval base. The boats patrolled the commercial part of the port and were tasked to detect and detain a group of underwater saboteurs. The boats were called into action when an unknown group was detected under water at the Tsemess Bay. The boats moved to an intercept and were able to neutralized the group of saboteurs [8].

Rescue tug Sergei Balk left the Black Sea and passed through the Bosporus [9].
